Honey, come on down!  Bring yourself, your unwanted coupons, and a friend if you like- come join our Coupon Swap Group this Tuesday!!  We meet at the Cleveland Public Library, in the renovated conference room off the 3rd Floor (there will be signs).  I’ll be there a little late this time (around 8 – it’s my 2-year old’s birthday!), but Andrea will be there to turn on the lights and welcome you, so show up whenever!

If you’d like to do some coupon trading, put all your unwanted coupons in an envelope/or envelopes with your name on them.  We’ll pass them around the table and share with one another!  (HINT: I don’t have pets, arthritis, or any love for Pillsbury Savorings-  so I’m going to be bringing alot of those!)

If you aren’t ready to swap, but would just like to show up and hang out- come and use the time to chat, clip your coupons, and organize for the week!  As you can tell from the picture at the top, we are a bunch of Swingin’ Cats – so it’s sure to be a fun time!

Until this very moment, it slipped my mind that this Tuesday will be our Bi-Weekly Coupon Soiree at the Library.  I haven’t checked if the room is available yet (though it likely is) but I can do that first thing in the morning.  Before I start all that though, can I just get a headcount as to how many people would actually come on such short notice?  Again, it’s at the Cleveland Public Library – Just a little get-together, chit-chat, coupon trading and whatnot- for anyone who wants to come.  Drop me a comment so I know whether or not to proceed or wait until next week!

Are you cripplingly thrifty?  Are all your “normal” friends beginning to back slowly away from you and your endless coupon stories?  Do you need a support group?  Well you’re in luck!!  Tonight is the second meeting of our local couponing club- and it’s going to be FANTABULOUS!!!!

• Coupon Trading: Andrea (not Angela, as I said before) taught us all last week how to stuff our unwanted coupons into envelopes, and pass them around the table for sharing/trading.  Bring some in this week if you have some!

• Snacks: Kelli and Kristen (our Newbies from the last meeting) are now hooked on couponing, and have kindly offered to supply snacks for tonight, compliments of their business, Dealifieds.  I kept seeing those yard signs all over town, wondering what it was:  It’s like Craigslist, but simpler, cleaner.   I just went on and found a set of wood bunkbeds for $30!

• Door Prizes: You heard me right!  Andrea is so great, she even made some trades to nab a few Publix coupon books to give away tonight!

• Even if none of this interests you, you’re more than welcome to simply come, sit around the table with us, clip your coupons and chit-chat.    I’ll be there from 7-9, and you can stay the whole time, or just drop in.  Feel free to bring a friend, maybe one you want to convert…..

Mark your calendars ladies!!  This Tuesday night, from 7-9 P.M.(at the Cleveland Public Library), we local couponing nerds will be gathering once again.  A couple weeks ago we met for the first time, and as you can see from the picture above- it was love at first sight.  There were brownies and binders aplenty, we traded coupons, told our stories, and shared our experiences.  Here is fellow-cheapskate (Please, Please forgive me, I waited too long to post this and have forgotten your name!!) showing us her organization system.  That is my kind of tackle box!!

If you do come to trade, here is how our friend Angela advised we do it- and it seems to work great!  Put all the coupons you don’t want/need into an envelope with your name on it.  If you have tons, and the time, you might want to make a couple of envelopes (Household, Food, Baby- whatever).  We will then pass these around the table, taking what we need from other envelopes, and eventually getting ours back at the end to take home again.  Easy-Peasy!  I ended up with about $15 in Huggies coupons last time that I REALLY NEEDED, and I gave away several Pet Food ones.

Again, I’ll be there from 7-9 if you want to come.  Feel free to bring a friend who is interested; drop-by or stay the whole time; come to trade; or just to bask in the glow of thriftiness!  If you’ve been looking for a support group- you’ve found it.

P.S> Would anyone like to bring a snack this time?  If not, I’m sure I’ve got some stockpiled yogurt and waffles that I can spare…..

Q. Okay, just one more…if you had any little piece of advice for other couponers like you, what would it be?

A. Don’t get frustrated…abide by the “rules”…..start out small…it won’t happen over night but you can get to a point where you can feel comfortable in everyday purchases and your great coupon purchases to have happy balance…( cause let’s face it….How much ketchup, mustard, and mayo can a family of 5 actually use????? those who coupon regularly know what I am talking about!) God gives you the talent you just have to use it….

This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, to figure out a little place to get-together with some of you my fellow cheapskates to clip, share, and just hang out.  I wasn’t sure where we could do it until I found out that the Cleveland Public Library lets groups reserve their conference rooms free of charge.  I spoke with the woman in charge this afternoon, and we have Tuesday night all to ourselves!

They have 2 conference rooms: A small one, which holds about 16 comfortably, and then a large one with a kitchen that will hold much more.  I told the coordinator that I would gauge the response from you guys, and get back with her as to which one we’ll be needing.  So here’s your chance:  RSVP by shooting me a comment on this post, and I’ll get back with her before Tuesday.

For you Chattanooga/Ooltewah ladies, I would love to set up the same thing closer to you guys, but since I don’t know yet about your library policies, it’ll take me awhile to pin down a spot and a time for you.  If anyone living in Chattanooga, or Ooltewah would like to go ahead and make some calls, I’d be happy to post what you find out.  Of course, if you don’t mind a little roadtrip, you are invited to come to the one here on Tuesday!

The Carmichael House faces Ocoee St. and is a stately old old home that was beautifully renovated.  I’m sure it will be a great little spot to hold these sort of things every couple of weeks if the response is good!  Here’s what it looks like in case you are unsure, but you can always go to the Main Library’s front desk and they will direct you to it.  I hope to see you there (I’ll be the one with a plate of brownies and an overflowing binder)!

Q.) Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?  Also, where do you live?
A.) My name is Jenny .   I’m 25, I live in Chattanooga (in St. Elmo), and am saving to buy a house here.  I have two jobs- I work at the Creative Discovery Museum Science Theatre and also at Mellow Mushroom.

A.  I got into it seriously in March, just after you wrote that initial post on your other blog.  I started buying the Sunday paper, frequenting SmartSource and Southern Savers, and quickly became just as excited about that free cereal as you.

A.)  I remember my Dad clipping coupons every Sunday morning before church.  I would help look for coupons we might use and make sure he clipped those.  He kept his coupons in little paper-clipped stacks, a method I now employ, (although my stacks are sorted and kept inside my accordion file).

A.)  My most successful had to be yesterday’s trip to CVS and Kmart.  First off, this is the best week ever to shop at CVS.  My out of pocket was $14.26, I saved $71.14, and still went home with $7.44 in ECB, which makes me feel like I actually only spent $6.82.  Then I headed over to Kmart for the first time in about six years- I’m a Target girl, but I’m moving into a new house, and the double coupon week was just what my cleaning closet needed.  I spent $8.52 there, and saved $23+.  So, everything pictured (above) ultimately cost $15.34.

A. DONATE!  I enjoy the strategy of couponing, and I like shopping little financial consequence, but I don’t need everything I get for free.  There are plenty of organizations in the area needing donations, so find one that is convenient to you, and pick up a couple of items each week.  If you live or work in downtown Chattanooga, Community Kitchen really appreciates any food or personal hygiene items.  You can just drop off donations inside the front door 8-5, 7 days a week.

Okay, I’m not very tech-savvy, but I’m pretty sure there are great-grandmothers out there who twitter.  So I figured it was time for Chattanooga Cheapskate to get itself Twitter-fied. I’m going to start out by putting up the RSS feed on the bottom of the sidebar, so you can see what kind of stuff gets tweeted.  However, I’m kind of considering letting all of you have the password/sign-in info so we can be sort of a twitter-forum.  Everyone could then drop their hints and news bits into one spot for all to see.  What do you think?  Any suggestions?  Terrible, horrible idea?
